If you are a regular on Pinterst you have probably seen this little beauty floating around! It's a peice of art representing your favorite state with a heart placed in the city that is the most meaningful to you! After staring at it in my "craft" board for several months, I have finally decided to attempt it!!
I have decided to create the state of Alabama, which is where I grew up.....and my heart will sit on top of the city of Tuscaloosa, which is my college town, and the home of the TIDE.....Here we go....
Step ONE....Grab a peice of wood.....
Step TWO....paint it the color of your choice....I chose various shades of blue.....
Step THREE....sketch out your state with a peice of chalk. Don't worry, the chalk will wipe off easily!
Step FOUR.....Hammer in nails along the border of your state, just follow your chalk line.....
Step FIVE....Don't forget to hammer in your heart.....
Step SIX....Get a bundle of thread and start stringing it through each nail on the border and each nail in heart!
Well...what do you think?? My heart belongs in Tuscaloosa.....where does yours belong???

What a lovely project. I've always wanted to make one of them but Michigan is such an odd shaped state. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! This is such an awesome idea. I really love how you can personalize. I pinned your tutorial and definitely plan to try it out soon. You could also make a simpler version for kids to take on. Thanks for sharing this. Great post!
DeleteI hadn't seen this yet, but it's so cute! I live in Colorado though, so it wouldn't be nearly as exciting...we're just a rectangle. :-)

ReplyDeletedon't forget to hammer in your heart-that just struck me as poetic or something, lol. i love this idea!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! About how long did all that stringing take you? I'd love to do this with Texas.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll do one in the state I want to so move to. Thanks for sharing I really love it.

Fabulous! Would be so neat to do a collection of these for all the states we've lived in. :) Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I've got to try this!
ReplyDeleteHow many times do you wrap the string around the nail?
ReplyDeleteI wrapped it several times around each nail! And after I made it all the way around, i went back to create another layer!
ReplyDeleteDo you then tie it off and hide the knot somewhere?

Is there a certain or specific way to wrap the thread around the nails? Or is really up to the person doing it?
