Owl Party, Broken Down...DIY Style!!

Go ahead...grab a cup of coffee....get really comfortable, we are about to break down Julia's 2nd birthday DIY style!!  If you missed her birthday highlights, you can see them HERE!!

As every mom knows, planning a party is tough!  As long as you have time....a little bit of creativity...and pinterest on your side, you are already off to a good start!!  ok....let's get right to it!!.....

First...the theme!!  I really liked the sound of..."Look whoooo's turning twwoooo"......So right off the bat, I decided to have an Owl Themed party!!

The Invitations.....
The invitations were really simple!!  Though they look very detailed, it only took an afternoon to put them together!!  First make a template.  I cut out separate shapes for the body, the wings, the nose, and the eyes! Once you have a template, find the paper you want to use and start tracing and cutting out your pieces!  I glued the eyes and nose directly to the body of the owl.  I used colorful buttons for the center of the eyes......(very important!!..make sure your owl body will fit inside the envelope you are mailing it in!!)

Because I wanted my wings to swing in and out, I used a hole punch to make a hole in the top of each wing and through the owl body.  I then tied the two together with a piece of yarn!  Easy Easy!!

You can see here how the wings swing in and out!  I put a picture of Julia on the belly of the owl.  Our photo shoot was a lot of fun!!.....

I had her hold up a chalkboard which said "look whooo's turning twooooo".....and snapped away!!

I had to work extremely fast, because within 5 min, the chalk was disappearing!!

The party details went on the back of each owl.  I cut out large circles of paper, and hand wrote the info!

The Cupcakes.....

I gave Daddy K the "inspiration" picture, and told him my only request was to make them colorful!  I think he did a fantastic job!!  He even gave them spiked hair!!    The eyes (which are my favorite part) are made of oreos and M&M's!!

The Favors

You can find the complete tutorial here for the felt owl favors!!  Mine are a slightly different shape...I wanted them to match the shape of the invites..(imagine that!)

I hung the owls from twigs and let each kid pick one out before they left!  They loved it!!

The Balloons.....
This was soooo easy to do!!!  The hardest part having to tie each balloon!  Once you got past that, creating the flower was easy!

I hung the flowers on the front porch!

I thought they turned out adorable!   My best advice is to blow them up only a few hours before the party....I did all of mine the night before, and had to learn the hard way that the balloons like to deflate!!

Picture Decor...

This was literally a 10 minute project!  Get a large piece of card board, cut it into the number that you want, then tape pictures all over it!!  So Simple!!  I used an assortment of pictures from the time she turned 1 until now.....

The Shirt...

Isn't this soo cute!!!  I have never made any type of clothing before, but after I saw how easy this was, I had to make one for Julia!!

I thought it turned out great!!  I got the fabric for the "2" and the shirt from Walmart!  I simply cut out the 2, then did an iron on transfer!

The Human sized bubble....

Isn't this cool!!!  All you need is a plastic pool and a hula hoop.  The bubble solution is made of 5 gallons of Distilled water and 10 cups of Dial dish soap (not anti-bacterial)  It's best if you make the solution and let it sit over night!  I saw this idea on Me oh My!

Julia loved this!!

She even blew bubbles inside the big bubble!!  soo cute!!

Well there you have it!!  A complete break down of the DIY Owl Party!!  I hope I have inspired you!!!  Now go start that party planning!!

  6. Hi! I couldn't see where to comment on your "meet the family" page. We have a Goldendoodle named Max, too. :) He only weighs abou 65 lbs, he's on the slimmer side. I wanted a HUGE dog when we got him. :) He's almost 2 years old, in just a couple of weeks. Did your dogs get larger after that age? Love your pictures and site. :)

  8. Hey would you mind sharing which blog platform you're using? I'm planning to start my own blog in the
near future but I'm having a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
